Cocktail Creations

A visit to The France Show http://www.thefranceshow.com/ which has been on all this weekend at Olympia reminded my good friend and I of our last outing to the same venue, last Novembers Good Food Show.

This was another marvellous day out to enjoy. A vast array of tasty samples and all those gadgets you just cannot live without. Celebrity chefs, show theatres and a general buzz from satisfied show goers all added to the enjoyment.

For us the best show experience was provided by Funkin Cocktails http://www.funkincocktails.co.uk/ in association with Diageo (those people who seem to own almost all brands of spirits) it was a cocktail masterclass.

Great value at £10 for a fun half hour lesson from energetic experts with all the spirits, mixers, fruit syrup and general kit provided. Stylish jam jars with lids as a modern twist on glasses were perfect vessel for taking your cocktails away for a tipple on the train home later. Recipes were provided for recreating the cocktails at your leisure.

My chance for a re run came soon after when I did my best to imitate the event at home for visiting family. It worked well generating an enjoyable hour or so and would be perfect for summer party entertainment. The jam jar trick is inspired use first as a shaker then just pop in a coloured straw and you have cheap and cheerful glassware.

The same technique works for "mocktails" and it is entertaining to experiment with different fruits and flavours. Watch the sugar syrups though they are a ratio of 2 parts sugar to 1 part water!
